OBU, namely on-board unit, is a piece of microwave equipment installed on vehicles so as to communicate with RSU (road-side unit). When a car passes by a RSU, the OBU will communicate with the RSU through microwave for vehicle recognition, fee calculation, toll collection and other purposes. This is much like a contactless card, but the communication distance is much farther (over 10m to 10cm), and the communication frequency is much higher (5.8GHz to 13.56MHz).
